Gate Update for Sept 28
Published: September 30, 2022
We are up to 187 forms returned. My thanks to all that have completed the process.
Just when I got everyone excited about the loops being installed yesterday and today the company cutting the loops had an emergency today that prevented them from completing the entrance drive of the main gate and the safety loop at the Katie Gate. I’m being told that they will be in HG to cut the remaining loops on Thursday or Friday this week.
Reminder, when the entrance gate is being worked on the pass through behind the guard house will not be available as work will be happening in this area. So please drive carefully if you use the main gate to enter or exit while the main entrance gate is blocked for loop cutting because the only gate open will be the main exit gate and it will create contention as the lane is narrow and will only allow one way driving at a time.
Also, please be advised that the main exit gate is fully operational with the gates on new posts, with new operators, new ground loops and new signage. There is still work that needs to be done but this gate is almost fully complete. Reminder to all, THE MAIN EXIT GATE NOW OPENS INWARDS. Please allow the main exit gate the time and room to open. Finally, once a vehicle clears the safety loop immediately outside the exit gate the gate will begin to close in 7 seconds.
I’m also receiving good questions through the property management group that I’m answering but also want to share with all the residents.
As a resident of the Oxford side of HG (the small group of 20 homes across Indian Creek at the back of HG) I often have service people that need to get into the gate to, mow, spray, repair, service, etc. my yard/home. So, without a guard at our gate how can I provide access to service personnel while still supporting the gated “secured” access to HG?
1. The first is the use of the directory at the gate. The keypad directory access will be upgraded at all four HG entry gates. This allows a service person to access HG via the directory no matter where the resident is located. The directory allows a call to be placed to the resident, if the resident does not answer their phone the system automatically calls the next number in the call tree the resident sets up. The HG resident can choose to receive a voice call, a voice call with a picture or a voice call with streaming video. Upon receiving the call, the resident can enable the gate to open. This is the best method to use to allow access and maintain the integrity of our gated community. I’ve used this method for 8 years with multiple service people that come both regularly and irregularly to my home on Oxford and have yet to have an issue with allowing access. And the new CellGate system we’re installing is better than what we’ve had the last eight years.
2. The second method is the use of the QR code system. A resident can set up a QR code for a service person that only works at a certain time of day and/or day of week. If there are service people that come at irregular times and days the directory is still the best option. That said a QR code could be sent to a service person that only allows access between 8AM & 5PM Monday through Friday. While not optimal this is much better than allowing access to HG 24x7.
Both methods described above solve the access issue for Oxford with the first option being the preferred method.
As a final note, your individual 5-digit code should not be given out to service people. Doing so will allow non-resident individuals access to HG 24 hours a day 7 days a week and would completely defeat the purpose of having a gated “secured” community. Residents pay to have a secured community and allowing service personnel to have 24x7 access defeats this purpose. We do not want service personnel to have access to the HG community after hours without being able to control their access.
